Pneumococcal-polysaccharides-vaccine-ppv-23-valent is a vaccine used to protect against Pneumococcal disease caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, also known as pneumococcus .
Infection with the bacteria can result in pneumonia, infection of the blood (bacteremia/sepsis), middle-ear infection (otitis media), or bacterial meningitis.
