Is Ivermectin something you can use on a 7 year old who has had more than her share of lice treatments. We have done everything possible. Can a 7 year old take a med such as Ivermectin safely?
Your help is appreciated.

The Ivermectin will not treat lice infections. She is probably getting reexposed to the lice more often than you think or the nits were not killed and removed. I had this problem with my daughter for about a year and a half and she was getting re exposed at school and at my sister's house. Nix is the best treatment and it last for 2 weeks, however, the nits have got to be removed. At most mass retail stores and drugs stores, they have a product which makes the nits alot easier to remover. It used to be called comb out gel and you can ask the pharmacist to help you find it,it should be with the lice removal products. It dissolves the glue the lice glue the nits to the hair with. I finally got rid of them by buying the cheap anti lice shampoo, the comb out get and the Nix. Shampoo her with the lice shampoo to kill the live bugs, and rinse well. Apply the comb out gel and get all the nits out, it will be much easier with the nit removal solution, follow the directions. Then use the Nix according to the directions. With Nix, she will be protected for 2 weeks, In 2 weeks, do the Nix again and then again in 2 weeks. This should mean 3 Nix treatments in 6 weeks at 2 week intervals. The lice have a 4 week life cycle and so you will have gotten past any of them being alive. If you are nervous about the shampoo and she doesn't have any live bugs that you can see outside in the sunshine, you can skip that and just shampoo her and use the nit removal treatment and the NIX. This is what finally rid of all of them for us and she has never had them again. There is probably a major problem with them at her school and people are just really embarassed to admit it. The best way to see the bugs and nits is in daylight and use a magnifying glass. Check all the kids she plays with or stays with. Good Luck, I hope you get some relief soon. I went through it for a while.
Honey you are so welcome. When this happened to us, I thought God was punishing us with a plague. Supposedly children who are Bi racial or African American can't get head lice, and my sister's God Children are Bi Racial and no one checked them. They had had them for a long time. My daughter went over there quite frequently and played with them and she was being exposed there and at school. I am a hairdresser and got unfairly blamed at her school as bringing them, although they had a day care and the woman who was the directress never changed the children's nap mats or even sprayed them. The school had tried to fix the problem by having the carpet cleaned and the rooms fumigated and painted, but, lice are heat seeking and they were in the mats. The directress had a degree in Early Childhood Developement, but, she just didn't use common sense. If you will find a mint based shampoo, like Paul Mitchell TeaTree shampoo, and give it to your sister, It will help keep them off of your niece. Lice hate mint. It won't kill them, but, it will make the lice not like the smell of her hair. If she goes to the other parents house every other weekend, she may be being re exposed there.

Thank you so much for the information. We are at our "nits" end with this. It's my sister's daughter and she has been treated so many times and even taken to a beauty salon to have all nits removed. She was fine ... all nits gone ... no actual bugs (lice) ... then it happened again. My sister just doesn't know what else to do. They actually had Ivermectin as a lice treatment on one website I went into. So thank you for your information and I will definitely be passing it on to my sister.
Sincerely,
Hope to stop being "SickofLice"
