Permethrin - Can it be used to treat a rash?

I have recently been prescribed this due to a suspected case of scabies rash. It's basically a topical pesticide - you rub it in from head to toe and leave it on for 10-14 hours, then wash off. It's for killing off any mites that may be inside of your skin which is why
the rash shows up. It doesn't stop the itch, so I would take some benadryl or some anti-allergen to help with that while you have the cream on.
If your rash is due to something else - I would use a hydrocortisone or calagel lotion.
Good luck! (the permethrin is supposed to work in one application)
