Parnate has helped reduce my depression to nearly gone but I'm having tremendous difficulty with anxiety and especially social anxiety, concentration and focus. I need to go back on Concerta but I know I can't until I'm off of parnate and all MAOIs. I have failed many trials of different SSRIs, atypicals, etc. Doctor doesn't want me to stop parnate without a good alternative ready. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Especially that a CNS stimulant would actually have a calming effect on anxiety! Diagnosed with Rapid Cycling Bipolar II.

I have never taken parnate. I do take nuvigil (CNS stimulant) and it helps me tremendously. While I have more energy and sleep less, it helps me contend with life better and thus reducing my anxiety indirectly. I am also bipolar and am mostly depressed so that could be why the nuvigil works so well along with my antidepressant (pristiq) and abilify.
Please be careful and not start something else before the MAOI is completely out of your system (at least two weeks). There are lots of different anti D's to try, have you tried an SNRI like pristiq or effexor?
I agree with your doctor, having a plan for when you come off the parnate is critical, and the doctor is the best adviser as to what that needs to be.
Good luck with your transition and keep in touch,
laurie

Thanks for your answer. I've tried almost every different combination (SSRI, SNRI, etc.) and nothing seems to do it. Invega seemed to be one of the few helpful drugs but I stopped it because it was an 'atypical anti-psychotic' I started labeling myself with that label. I think I know better now.
Give up the labeling and get back on the med that works. I have had many different diagnoses and to be honest I had to give up worrying what my diagnosis was and get on with treating the symptoms. If the invega works, take it. It really is not a big deal to take an antipsychotic, it doesn't mean you are psychotic, it just means you have a chemical imbalance in your brain. I take abilify (an antipsychotic) and it helps the effectiveness of my antidepressant.
Good luck to you and keep in touch,
