You Probably need to talk to your Dr. on Monday and let him/her know that you can't afford the Protonix. You can take prilosec OTC even the store brand which is omeprazole. It shuts down most of the acid pumps in your stomach, just like the Protonix, but leaves enough of them on to digest food. Your Dr. may be able to give you some samples for free. Protonix is very high and not alot of insurance companies pay for it.

I keep hearing that taking Protonix for a long time causes gastritis, how likely is this and how long would you have to be taking it to get it??

Do an internet search for generic protonix and look for the one in the US in Ohio. I get mine... 60 a month for $25.11 and that's with $3.95 expedited shipping. I would just give you the site but I think it would be deleted, sorry.
