I recently underwent a high tibial osteotomy to correct a varis deformity in my legs a.k.a. bowlegged. I am 30 years old and have worked landscape construction since college. I have beaten my legs and been in pain for years. I was prescribed percocet and oxycontin post-op. I quit the percocet after 63 days of use and only used the oxycontin for 10 days at the beginning. I cannot sleep, my bowels are out of normal cycle and I feel very restless every night when I TRY to sleep. I feel better today, four days since last having percocet, but I still have not slept more than three hours a night since. I am a zombie, but...my left leg does not hurt at all. It is the first time in probably five years that the constant ache and pain has not been there. I will have the right leg done...but I am gonna wait a year until I do that. I don't think I can handle the withdrawal from the pain medication again anytime soon. i used the H.A.L.T. acronym to help me the past few days. I don't allow myself to be Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired...still working on the tired part, but I know it will be over soon.
Pain - why can't I tell my story here, I want to share my experience so it may help someone else?

You CAN tell your story here, that's part of the reason (i think) this site exists... However, this part of the site is for drug and condition questions. If you go to the top right hand of the page, click 'community', and go to forums, you can post anything that's on your mind there... Also, have you checked out the 'pain', 'opiate dependence' and opiate withdraw support groups? Very helpful. I sympathize with you and your story. I became an addict myself after being on percocet for 3 years following knee reconstruction, that's actually how I found this site. Isn't it awful how the meds that make us better also make us sicker? I found that 2 Aleve Liquid gels along with 2 Tylenol rapid release caps help with the pain on the days that it is bad.(take the Aleve every 12hrs, and the Tylenol every 4-6 after the initial dose) It's not a couple of perks, but it works. We're happy to have you. Send me a message if you ever want to talk, and visit this site often, it helps out a lot. Good luck along the way, ~Manda
