I just recently got neck surgery done on Jan 14th. My doctor has suddenly terminated my pain contract for reasons that are NOT true and I don't know what to do?

Were you getting pain medications from two different physicians? Even if it is for another reason?
Otherwise, you doctor felt you should no longer have pain and he/she cut you off.
Or the doctor had a visit from the DEA and is scared and cutting people off. Any doctor that prescribes some drugs under data 2000 exempt, are now getting a visit. I have even seen doctors close their practice, and move in with a group to protect themselves.
I would go to the health food store and see if they have any legal holistic pain controller for you, till you can go without. Please use this only short term.
Wish you the best
YES, YES, YES, Now "THAT'S What i'm talkin' about ! ! Thank You itsmetoo2. Every word you said plus I once saw an RN and a Doctor both canned by a BIG PHARMA salesman... is absolute gospel ! Sacosam It absolutely SUX , and We, or We + somebody have got to change things or we're in trouble ! !

i had a problem with a pain clinic a year ago and wanted to change so when i did they tried to make me look like a drug addict while i was in the new doctors office he called the old clinic they said terrible things about me THEY WERE NOT TRUE the new doctor said he would take me on trial to prove myself i did only what he said only got davocet-n-100 2 aday and lyrica 150mg a day thank goodness i still had my shrink(which he knew about they would talk and compare notes ) i also took all the injections he reccommended and never asked for anything extra now a year later he trust me and i get stonger meds the injections when i need them and we have a very good relationship but one office tried to burn me and it has taken a long time to get my good name back after he received my records (8)months later i believe he took my side of things but still we have that paient doctor relationship and the contract that so many of the doctors ask for.i am sorry you were terminated hopefully you ...

i had the same thing happen to me . only someone called my dr told a lie and the dr went as far as lying about me not having anything in my system to protect herself . i talked to a lawyer and he said the dea is making it hard on all drs are protectong theirselfs they dont care about the paicents just their licens . i got another dr . i see it everyday where im from the druggies and dealers get what ever drugs they want and i have cronic pain have been in pain for 10 years and i go to the dr and get a run around . i am very quite and backwards drs scare me because they are the ones in controle weater i am able to get up and be in less pain . but i found a new pain dr and i was honest and told her what happend she said it is a shame alot of people have cron ic pain and thye are teated like addicts just because of some people abusing the right to get pain meds . dont give up get your records and ask your family dr for help mine was great help getting my records and mris for me .
i'm sorry it happened to you i'm in a good place no one in my family other than my husband knows who i go to my hushand doesn't even know what i take he really doesn't like me on this site thats why you usually see me here early mornings i too wake in pain go to bed in pain pain pain pain i had a breakdown over pain it will never get that way again i'm retired now and can take care of myself daily i hope and pray that for everyone and i pray everyone can find the right doctor for their needs and the government (DEA) will back off and crawl back to where they came from i'm usually quite but our healthcare is such a mess, let the DEA scale down & turn that extra money to other sites like the under fed children and guns in our schools and leave our doctors alone for awhile so they can doctor the sick.missy
Amen to that Missy, I am having so much pain especially in the morning after at least an hour of trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep that my husband has to bring my meds in for me before i can even get out of bed. I am young, i am only 24 but I just had a baby and the doctors messed up my back really bad. I have herniated disks and bulging disks, they messed up my epidural and gave me a spinal headache and my spinal fluid is leaking out and the surgeon said its bad enough now that I could have surgery but he doesn't want to until its absolutely necessary. I have never once asked for a refill before it was due, they gave me a prescription when i was being discharged from the hospital for Oxycontin (before i went to see the family doctor about all of this) and when I went to him for my follow up, I asked him to please give me something different because it made me feel dopey and I don't like that feeling.

The only reason I can think of just like everyone else has said is #1 you are getting meds from more than one doctor, #2 doesn't think you need that type of pain med anymore, or #3 just being a jerk. Have you asked him/her why? They owe you an explanation at best. Good Luck. And as Dave said, find another doctor. There are lots out there.
I thank you so very much for your story and as I have also gotten surgery on my neck and have now been without my pain meds for over a couple of weeks, am now contemplating taking up drinking, I have been in tears for days, wondering what to do and going as far as thinking I CANT DO THIS ANYMORE!!! I just want to die, I know that this pain would drive anyone crazy and theres nothing I can do!! I live in a rural village!!
My doctor is freaking out because I'm on 5mg percocet twice a day and 5mg Valium for muscle spasms, it HARDLY takes the pain away from my back and there are days where if it weren't for my baby boy and my husband, I would have probably committed suicide a few months ago. Its still hard for me to fight off the thoughts of just rather being dead than in this much pain and not being able to hold my son is absolutely just as painful as my back. It breaks my heart and is making my anxiety go through the roof. When my anxiety goes up my pain gets worse and when me pain gets worse my anxiety gets worse. Its vicious and im terrified to try to find another doctor because i said before i don't want them thinking that im "doctor hopping" but when he asked me if the medicine is helping and I said not really, his reply was well "imagine what it would be like without any at all" I'm so frustrated and don't know what to do.

After reading some of the responses, I realize how fortunate I am. I see one doctor and one doctor only. My Spine Surgeon. I do not see a GP or pain specialist anymore. He knows my insurance status and sees me for other issues as well. The only thing he won't handle for me is the Gynie stuff. But I don't need the Gynie for pain meds either. When I first started as his patient, I had to sign the contract as well. I told him that I had previously signed a contract with another dr. but that was 3 years ago. I encouraged him to contact that clinic (which I'm sure he did) to verify I was med compliant. The main thing is 1) Be honest with your doctor! 2) Get copies of all your medical records. 3) Get a printout from your pharmacy of all your meds. PROVE to your new doctor you have nothing to hide. Good luck and I wish you better health! It sounds as if your doctor is being a real jerk and your the one who has to suffer!

OH MY GOSH, I THINK I JUST WROTE MY FIRST BOOK. SERIOUSLY SORRY SO LONG... The drug addicts, doctor shopping and so fourth is what is hurting everyone of us that have acute and chronic pain. My cousin told me about a women she knew years ago that would go to a doctor in tennessee for hydros, then in mississippi for the same thing. She told me the women never took a one of them, she would sell them all. It makes me sick to my stomach!!! These are people that you wish would all at once get severe pain and have no medication to take.(sorry i know that is harsh).

jazmynner-you have a casemanager in your insurance company-- find out who is assigned to you and if you are innocent then begin describing your case--she has to get involved and talk to the doctor on your behalf especially if you recently had surgery they are obligated to you because of that-- if he is also the same doctor that did the surgery -- then he has to provide other pain management services as well as care after surgery- for a certain period of time they cannot just do you like that he is responsible to you to ensure that you heal properly ... call your case manager-you must report the situation..you can complain to your insurance company because they authorize the ok for the treatment plan that he submitted to them/ and he is getting paid for complete service--- before--during--- after surgery-call your insurance company look on the back of your card--- there is someone assigned to you--- call immediately explain your case-let them deal with him accordingly--do not allow him to get away with that!!! vtech10

After reading your question and the great responses from all I just broke down and cried for an hour... some tears for my pain most for what we all, meaning suffering people not the theives who make our suffering worse than it should be. This country prides itself on being humane and for trying to do the right thing. Sure there are Doctors who unkowingly or knowingly hand out prescription after prescription to people who sell them to the highest bidder. But we the people who go through excruciating pain that would make the most hardened CIA operative sing like a canary cannot find relief just because of these jerks that sell there prescriptions.
Kudos to you, Bertram, You hit the nail right on the head. The problem IS the incompetent, uncaring doctors who lack compassion. Not all are like that, but many are. Your comments will be read and appreciated by many. Including me. Thank you.

Be sure to write a letter to your doctor and who ever is his/her superior. Example his board of directors, who ever they answer to, and explain your situation and how you feel. ALL letters go on their perminant record. Make sure you keep a copy and send it certified mail. It might be a small act but it gives patients some control over their treatments. Hope all goes well!

My Dr.I had, was treating me,I was referred there by a fellow patient who was approximatly 40 and at the time I was 47 and was having this severe and escruciating feet/leg pain? I went to see her Dr. and immediatly was put on 15 mg oxycodone where she was on 5 mg and was angry. She came to my house often and eventualy I realized my pain pills were coing up short (she was stealing them) I told the Dr.s office and they got aangry, when confronting the female , I was in custody court for my child and her answer was " she's short bbecause she SELLS them" this info hit the court putting me with my 15 year ol;d child on supervised (bu mom who I live with) for duration of his visits till he's 18) I had this in black and white and showed her, naturally she DENIED it! They then decided neither of us were wanted in their care and I was on 189 30 mg of oxycodone for neuralgia of necxk and back and occipipital are from which I get shots for to reduce pain..
