I am currently taking timed release 40 mg of Oxy twice a day but have lost my insurance. The cost of the Oxy is unbearable. I can get morphine from the VA. What would be an equivalent dosage of Morphine? I do not think time release Morphine is available from the VA. Thank you

40mg twice a day (80mg total) of oxycontin is equivalent to 60mg of Morphine (30mg twice a day). I am on MSContin 30mg twice a day, and the generic is Morphine Sulfate Controlled Release (or sustained release). I have to pay out of pocket for a month's worth... at a retail pharmacy, I was paying almost $100 (like Kroger or Rite Aid). I took it to a hospital pharmacy and only pay $30 for 60. If the VA can't help you, try a local hospital. You can call around for prices but they usually won't tell you they have it in stock because it is a Schedule 2 narcotic. Ask your doctor if he or she would mind switching you bc of price variance. Let me know if this helps and good luck!
