Hello, I would taper your dose as much as you can possibly can, take it every other day and when you are finally done google the thomas recipe, it helped me. Good Luck, it won't be easy but you can totally do it. (I did it) -K and I was on 100mg of morphine sulphate a day.

You can try spacing your doses but you will probably need the Dr to help you taper since you cant split or alter OxyContin. Your Dr might be able to switch you over to a short acting form that you can split up into smaller pieces or they may want to taper the long acting first. You can reduce to 30mg, 20mg, 15mg, then10mg on the long acting but the Dr will need to prescribe it this way. This kind of reduction may be too fast and be too big of a jump off so the short acting might be a better way to go. Be honest with your Dr and tell them that you would like to taper off. Hopefully it wont be too bad since 40mg a day is a pretty small dose of OxyContin. Do you take 20mg twice a day?

As you have already read, that taking these pills by cutting them in 1/4 or 1/2 is quite dangerous because you don't know where the time release come to play. It could be in the middle or whatever. If you go cold turkey off of this med as it wasn't prescribed, please google the Thomas Recipe & read things you can do to get off & help thru the withdrawals. If you have vacation time at work, it would be a good time to take it as you will have withdrawals. Without a doctors help, you are going to have many withdrawals. Can't you go to your doctor & admit to what you are doing, & want help? He may prescribe the short acting oxycodone to help you with the withdrawls, & lowering your dose of it by 5 to 7 days a pill. They also sometimes prescribe a benzo such as klonopin or xanax to help also. Expect diarrhea, chills, hot flashes, jitters, & so forth. I wish you well of course, but please ask for help...
