Dear Matt Boy, any pregnant patient must seek advice about detoxing from an ob gyn experienced in treating mothers to be who have a dependence issue. You didn't list the medication/substance that is being used, but you list only 4 weeks of use, the dr definitely needs to call this one. Methadone is used as long acting pain relief and as an opiate replacement, but just given that such a short time listed for use, it is my opinion that methadone would not be the best choice. Some drs want a mom to be to detox, some determine it is better not to detox, depending on how far along the patient is, how much opiate is being used, and other considerations. There is no one certain answer, but the dr has to call this one. 6 months into the pregnancy, it needs to be addressed by the ob, if this patient is illegally taking without a prescription for a medication or substance, there could be some legal issues concerning the child as well as withdrawal for the child. Sorry I can't give more advice. Patti

1st I want to say that I commend you for the idea of getting clean. I need to say that you 100% need to be in an inpatient hospital setting. Many places gives you a drug called subutex to get everything out of your system, but I don't know if you can take that while pregnant. Many facilities have group therapy and that could be so helpful if you are pregnant. Getting off something is already emotional, but adding hormones to that can be crazy. Having others there to support you could help. PS. Congrats on having your little bundle of joy!
