I am 76 and just started taking Forteo, being I have joint pain all the time, I would not notice that as a side effect. My only other condition is trying to learn how to cope with a shoulder replacement. Which means I have to type with one hand..so ignore typing errors please.

You know Mj3Moi it just depends on the drug and I don't take Forteo, I take Calcitonin-Salmon Nasal Spray. What I did to find out more about the drug and it also tell about the reactions of the drug. I go to the Info about what you are taking and most of the time it is noted in the info part how long it takes to work. But also you can go in as a professional and there is alot of info. I have searched the internet about Calcitonin and found out all I could before I even took it. But it is funny that the effects of the drug can only be when you take it and only you will have the side effects and each person is different. Had several people taking my drug I take and they had several side effects and I have had so few . I really like this drug and pray the results will turn out good. I am 73 yrs. old and I've had my share of side effects with drugs. If I can help you let me know. Good Luck. Nannywiz

I have been taking Forteo for over a month and experienced some side effects with the first dose. A few minutes after the injection (9PM) I noticed a metallic taste in my mouth. At 1 AM, I experienced some stomach discomfort, heartburn and lots of gas; also, a fairly severe headache above my eyes. My thighs were aching. (I had injected the Forteo into my abdomen)My blood pressure before taking the medication was 121/67 and had elevated to 153/77. I experienced an urgency to urinate at that time. So 4 hours seems to be the "magic hour". My blood pressure was near normal at 6 AM. (124/67 ) Lately I have changed my routine to AM injections. Side effects cont. same but are less disruptive of sleep. Best wishes with your treatment!

I am the daughter of someone who just completed her "dose " for the last two years of forteo. She had joint pain, loss of balance, mental issues, and all of these symptoms were almost immediate and thank god, they are almost gone now . She is a firm believer that the drug is useless, and harmful. They put her in a wheelchair and it was almost the end of her. Please discontinue this drug if problems arise, don't wait .

I hate to disagree with the lastest poster, but I am on my second year of taking Forteo, & have had absolutely NO side effects other than a little stinging when injecting, but that is not abnormal for any injection. I also recently had a new DEXA scan of the bone density & mine has increased after 1 years use of Forteo. I have tried every bone building drug on the market that I could that did not help at all. I may have been one of the first to ever be on one as I have had osteoporosis for years. I know I have for over 23 years & Forteo, the last leg of bone building drugs has rebuilt me new, stronger bone. Do not be fooled by people who read side effects & get it into your head about these drugs. There are risks with anything you put in your body or walking across the street thru traffic for that matter. It's a 26 month, once in a lifetime deal , & then you're back to whatever you were taking before (after a rest) to maintain the new bone...
