... going on 3 weeks now. I've tried rinsing the sinuses with the teapot thingy, used nasal spray, used zyrtec, Loratadine (it's crap!), humidifier, but nothing is giving me relief, well... I will get small waves of relief but nothing is kicking this sinus infection. The doc will not give me antibotics cause she said this will pass on it's own. Does anyone have any tired and true methods that work for them?
No insurance-HELP! I have had what the doctor has called a viral-sinus infection, but it's been?

Steam works well to clear the sinuses. Boil a pot of water on the stove, take it off the stove and place it on a heat proof pad on a table surface, cover your head with a large bath towel and lean over the steaming pot of water using the towel to help hold in the steam. Breathe deeply until the water cools. (This helps your skin too.) I find it works best to clear out sinuses. You can do this several times a day as needed. Keep using the Neti pot, but dont use nasal decongestant spray for more than 1-2 days because you will get a rebound effect worse than the original infection! You can try using some Sudafed (or pseudoephedrine), it is a decongestant. The Zyrtec and loratadine are antihistamines which will help a runny nose due to allergies but it is not as effective against congestion. That is assuming you have no underlying heart problems which wounld contraindicate the decongestant.

Your probably going to think this is crazy but here goes: pour some salt in a bowl with some warm water and snort it up each side of your nose. Too much salt and it will burn, too little salt and it will hurt. it has to be just right mixture, it will go up your sinus cavity and back down your throat. Repeat this 2-3times a day and it will open up your sinuses better than Afrin nasal spray, which has rebound if used too much. Also, go to a different doctor, because if you are having green mucus, you need an antibiotic to get rid of the infection. NIK

You can buy the salt water product called "Ocean Spray". (and there are generics)That way you will get the correct amounts of salt to water mixture. I tried doing it myself & it burned really bad. I have allergies that cause me to have sinus infections all the times & either a running nose or stuffed up. A now retired allergy doc told me years ago about a little trick for the sinuses. Said to use a small amount of vasoline on a Q-tip in each nostril before bedtime. Use a different one for each nostril as you can have infection on one side & spread it to the other side. Put it as high as comfortable, & rub it in. Takes a coule of nights, but really helps. I have suggested this to several others & it has helped them too. Good luck with all of this. Sinus infections are very hard & stubborn to get rid of. Best not to keep using so many antibiotics if at all possible. Good luck & hope this helps...
Thanks Mary!! I will try this tonight. The doc gave me antibiotics two days ago. I went more than 30 days trying every product in the stores, but nothing helped. I hope the antibiotics work! Not much relief just yet. The doc said that it could take a week or more to get the relief I'm looking for. I know it's not good to use antibiotics often, but in this case I really do have a sinus infection, the worst one I have ever had. Most of the time I am able to take an over the counter medicine and that zaps it, but not this time! I felt like I should have been in the hospital to be honest. My lips were so dry (even though I was taking in more than the normal amount of daily liquid required), I couldn't move, it was just so bad. I'm still in pain all over, but at least I'm able to move around the house and get to work, even though it's labored.
I know that while recovering from a sinus infection one should keep the nose moist, so your tip will help in doing that.
Thanks again Mary!
Make sure you do this evey night if your prone to sinus infections, & have the dryness. As that doctor explained to me , when you put it really as high as is comfortable, it will also coat the sinuses as you sleep. I was having some stuffiness yesterday, so I did my nostrils last night ( I sometimes forget), & this AM as I was brushing my teeth all kinds of green junk came coughing out my throat! Then it was gone for the day & I could breathe again. I won't forget tonight! Good luck with this...

Thanks DzooBaby!! The antihisitamine and pseudoephedrine info HELPS A LOT!!!
Oh I have no heart conditions, so I may try using a pseudoephedrine.
I've been to the doctor 3 times and they just keep telling me that this will pass on it's own. On Monday they finally took blood and said that this is viral and will pass, but it doesn't feel like it's budging.
The worse part about this is that it started on the day my insurance ended. Hopefully next week my new insurance will be up and moving. Thank goodness cause then I will be able to get real help, maybe even into the ENT doc. This is happens to me often, but this is the WORST it's EVER been.
Thanks for your input!
Hope you get better soon, sometimes viral illness like this take awhile to pass. They sure are miserable! I suffer with a lot of sinus issues too.
Try the steam too. I know it sounds kinda crazy but you will be amazed at how much it opens the sinuses.
Thanks DzooBaby! Since talking that decongestant I do feel a bit better. So I believe the sinus infection is about gone. Today I will get to go to my new doctor (i was just waiting for my new insurance to kick in). I know something isn't right here because my throat and ears still hurt really bad. Hopefully today we can finally get to the bottom of what ever it is that has hit me so hard.
Either way thanks for your support... it really helped to drain those sinuses!
Have a good day!!
