New Butran PATCH (buprenorphine) by Purdue Pharm?

I just saw my pain doctor today and am told he wants me to give this patch a try instead of the oral pain med i am taking, but to continue to take it with tramadol/ralivia. I was told a few things by my doctor who worded it as "the instructions that come with the patch are wrong" he said that better places to put it was on a shoulder blade but then if you move that arm in a weird way it means putting a wrinkle in the patch so best is on one's thigh. He also told me if i find the starting dose to strong that unlike the packaging tells you its perfectly fine to cut the patch in half and only use half of it nothing will leak out.

Can i ask what dose you find that makes life more bearable?
I worry i will have this patch folling off but the idea of it working an no longer having to take narcotic pills throughout the day would be so fantastic. The doctor warned me though that 1 out of 5 people are allergic to the adhesive or something in the patch and since the people who make it own all the rights its not sold with other makeups. so to decrease the chance of skin irritation or reaction he has prescribed along with it a tube of cortisone cream (by prescription only in Canada) that i am to apply 6hours before i plan on putting on the patch, and right before i want to put on the patch i am to take a dry towel and remove all of the remaining cortisone then apply the patch and in doing so i should be decreasing the chance of having a reaction that will in turn make me unwilling to continue use with it. I am just worried about the 1'st 2-3 weeks before any of its pain killing effects really start to kick in when i am then unable to take my oral narcotic pain meds either, that time will me a tricky outright painful time for me but hopefully in the end it helps.

will update after i have some experience with this medication, for the moment i am excited and scared at the thought of it.

your side effects sound largely like the issues i had, but for me it was before i started the patch as what your describing sounds very much like withdrawal, what medication/s were you on before going on the patch that you are no longer on and how gradually did you go off that medication? Its unfortunate many doctors don't think to instruct patients to gradually go off one medication before starting another.

I did start the butrans patch before i was done with the withdrawal from my oral pain medication but that was because i was told the patch would help with the withdrawal some too, it helped a big compared to the last withdrawal i had, but i still had the horrible aching and headaches along with sleepiness for a couple weeks or so then things started looking up, tho you also started at a low dose likely so it might take till dose is upped, on the other hand if you were started at a high dose that itself can cause headaches and such if your not ramped up to a high dosages (low being 5-10mmg/h high being 20mmg/h).

as a general butrans patch update:
now been on the patch a year, at 20mmmg/h for 8+months, and it was almost great for a while but then pain started to increase (took a medication to treat my disease, and knew it would make things worse for a while but perhaps better in the long run, well after 3months of bad, and running out of it and weaning off i'm not certain i will go back on as while on the other medication the patch seemed rather useless and i had to smoke cannabis often to cope with the pain and that isn't what i want. If my pain management dr is okay with upping my dose more, or has some ideas then i might try the treatment medication again, otherwise i'll stay off it.
