Neuralgia - is Gabapentin treated for nerve damage?If so, what are the side affects to this?

I had an operation two years ago for a pinch nerve that I had in my neck. About two or three months after I started getting a burning sensation from my stomach up to my neck. I was told by my doctor it was normal. From then on it got worse. I'm taking 600 MG of Gabapentin, 2 tablets 3 times a day. I don't feel like liusy all the time and I have pain back in my neck and in my fingers in my left hand. And for the past two years I've been taking two oxycodone pills every 2 to 4 hours aday.10-325MG. I need to get off of these but I can't. I need help!

Gabapentin has been used to treat nerve pain.
I am assuming you mean 600mg three times a day ... yes, that dose is fine. A maximum of 1800mg/day (in divided doses) may be used as a maintenance dose. Up to 2400mg/day has been used as well.

I am on Gabapentin for trigeminal neuralgia For one yr now after a gingival surgery to my rt madibular, side. I have been in excrutiating pain since with thrush.and dry mouth . Experimenting with different medications I have experienced many side effects including pain where I had fractured bones in 3 areas and harm to my liver. Now on Gabapentin, I thought it was working but I am very tired requiring maybe 2 naps a day, unexplained pain in my hands and nerve pinging throughtout my body. 5 months post surgery I got shingles from the stress of the tooth. I still have intense pain in that area. I was taking cymbalta with the Gabapentin but had to stop as it was raising my liver enzymes. The pain increased after dropping the cymbalta. I am beside myself as I was an active person till the surgery. Since I am not talking enough of the medication I am still with pain. But taking much more will cause me to sleep more. It is bad enough that I dont exercise anymore as I did before.

I had an awful bout with shingles last June and I am still dealing with the "needles and pins" all throught the area of the breakout on my left chest and part of my back. My PCM prescribed 300mg caps of Gabapectin, one capsule by mouth three times a day... it just isn't working well at all. I do not want narcotics... If I increase the dosage per my PCM, will I experience weight gain? I left a message for my PCM to get advice but may not get an answer for up to 3 days...
