Need to be off Nardil for two weeks prior to Thumb Joint Surgery?

My question is how to taper down for this procedure? I've been on nardil for six years with exceptional relief from depression. My Psy. Doctor thinks I would have enough residual in my brain to be able to cope with this two week period.
Any suggestions on just how to taper... taking 90 mgs. per day (two 15 mgs three times a day).
Doc, also said, he could prescribe either Klonopin or Ativan as a precaution for any problems, for last few days before surgery.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in Advance
Walt

walt7, welcome to the site. I'm not sure I would be qualified to answer this question , & think you need to heed your doctors orders about this particular med. The wee bit I read about it says it has to be stopped at least 10 days before surgery with a general anestetic. Would it be possible to just have a nerve block on your arm & hand, & have the surgery done? I had this surgery in April & they wanted to do just a nerve block on me, but I know my pain tolerance & requested to have a general myself. You could check with the ortho that is doing the surgery & see if that is a possiblility. Other than that I would heed you psychs order on this matter...

Hello Mary,
Thanks so much for responding.
I apologize for omitting other info... I forgot that a nerve block was suggested by anesthesia nurse as an option, but ortho Doc wasn't willing to do it.
Yes, as you stated concerning the "ten days", I need to clarify as to time frame again??? Two weeks to wean... and/or... Two weeks clear of last dose???
Yet, more complicated now!!
Need to consult psyc Doc, for further instructions.
Thanks Again,
walt7
Walt, I wish you all the best. I am including the site I was reading about this, & maybe it will help you out too. Best of luck to you in your upcoming surgery..Mary632009

Should be no need to come off of Nardil for an operation. I have been on 45mgs per day for 30 years and have had two operations under general antithetic and all was fine. I didn't change or stop my dosage but I did make them put a warning bracelet on my wrist, no matter how many time they said all would be fine :-)
