Details:
Due to a car accident I have buldged disks, pinched nerves, and stenosis which have resulted in constant neck, back, leg and arm pain. I have been told that I will be in pain for the rest of my life.
To combat my pain I have had physical therapy and cortosone shots. (Still contemplating surgery) I have also purchased quite a few ice packs, a message chair, a zero gravity chair, and an inversion table.
I am currently on Ibuprofen, Tramadol, and Oxycodone. It seems that they have started to lose their effectiveness. Are there other medications that anyone would recommend me talking to my doctor about? Thanks!

The tramadol and oxycodone aren't much good for chronic pain as you get tolerent to them. You need to be on a sustained release opiate like ms contin which is sustained release morphine.
Short acting opiates like tylenol#? vicodin, percocet and even tramadol have little effect over time and are really designed for acute pain and not for chronic pain.. So ask your doctor about sustained release painkillers. You are able to function better on these drugs as you keep a steady serum level of the drug in your blood at all times. Were as quick acting opiates look like a roller coaster ride on paper. You get maybe 2 hours of pain relief before you lose the effect and have to wait to take more. The painkilling is gone and then you have to take more to get the level back up. You would have to take this stuff every hour or two to keep the level steady which of course isn't a good idea... Dave
