... My husband (prostatectomy in 2005 - radiation 2008) has been prescribed casodex in conjunction with avodart... is this a normal combination? His PSA has doubled in the past three months, but is still very low (3.0). His bone scan (2 weeks ago) is clear.

Casodex is an anti-androgen drug. It is usually given together with a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analogue (eg. goserelin or leuprolide).

Avodart is a 5 alpha-reductase enzyme inhibitor. It works by lowering levels of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a major cause of prostate growth. Lowering DHT leads to shrinkage of the enlarged prostate gland.
