iseelight; I would not mess around with this medication and this problem. If he is still sweating and vomiting after a couple of days then I would call the Dr. Because it is dealing with the heart then I would not even attempt to answer this question from a medical standpoint (on my end).If I ever got ot wrong then I would never forgive myself. Good luck to both of you.

I agree, this is a big, bad drug and we write for it all the time(RN and ARNP). Long term use can cause lots of issues, like kidney problems. Make sure you are getting a CMP, a cardiac panel and anything else, according to what his specific diagnosis are. Sometimes a liver panel is warrented.Maybe, the dosage is too high. Also, this drug can react with other drugs and exponentiate the side effects . Also, drug guides specifically state that this drug should be used when other drugs can't be tolerated or when the patient is not responsive to adequate doses of other antiarrhythmics. You should not drink grapefruit juice with it or have a lot of sun exposure. Side effects and incompatabilities are numerous, so you may want to check out a few good drug guides, likethe Nursing Drug handbook or a P>D>R>Pass on info. if you want. Thanks for reading and hang in there guys!
Thank you. We did go back to the doctor and now divide the dose, one morn., one eve., which stopped him getting sick. Today we saw another new reaction with it in his Coumadin level. We expect more reactions to come. He is to have another cardioversion soon since his heart is still not back in sink. The first two failed before he was on the amiodarone. With God's support, maybe this one will work.
A thank you to you too Two! I will write down the things you said to ask about. I have done a lot research on this drug in the last week. A lot! It's all negative other than the one possible benefit it is prescribed for. I pray to God that at least it does some intended good.
About the pineapple juice... pomegranate juice also has a very great possibility of having the same effect. I had been giving my husband a glass every morning untill I found that out! I emailed my drugstore and told them it should also be on their warning label for amiodarone and gave them the website where I found the information. It is from the Publix pharmacy wellness notes.

It says...

"Pomegranate juice has been shown to inhibit the same enzyme that is inhibited by grapefruit juice. The degree of inhibition is about
the same for each of these juices. Therefore, it would be reasonable to expect that pomegranate juice might interact with amiodarone in the same way that grapefruit juice does."
My pharmacy indicated they were going to follow through.
iseelight; Hang in there. They have got to get it right eventually. Please just know that all of us on the website are here for you. Please keep in touch.
