My husband is using silvadene cream on head after surgery for melanoma cancer we have put cream on as directed ,but i can not wash it off . the cream is hardened up like glue and will not come off will this cause an infection if left in the open wound or just clean and keep applying as directed? help help worried in ky.

I would suggest that you discuss it with the wound care nurse. If the Silvadene cream has hardened and the area around it looks fine i.e. not red or inflammed then perhaps there is no harm to leave it on ... however the area will need to be cleaned soon. You should use sterile normal saline solution to clean the area. You wound care nurse should be able to help you.

Just a suggestion ... if you don't want to touch the area in case you cause injury ... you can wash the area with saline using a syringe.
