She is on a high dose of Lantus, but Drs will base her dose on a test called a Hemoglobin A1C. If her HgA1C is high he will be giving her higher doses to keep her sugars down. Generally someone like this consumes too many carbs, therefore they need the higher doses of insulin. I have seen diabetics on higher doses and I have seen lower doses. These doses certainly are not unheard of and as I say, her Dr will base her doses on her bloodwork. If she wishes to lower her use of these meds she needs to get a tighter control on her diet.
