I'm concerned about taking this RX because it does make me dizzy. If the Robitussin does the same... why would he change. & which one will break up the congestion in my chest sooner as well as the heaviness in my head. The sinuses are finally running after 5 days of thick, many shades of green, mucus. Thank you.
My Dr. took me off Robitussin CF & put me on Tussionex. Are they really the same?

To be honest if there is lots of phlegm and chest congestion you are best with a straight expectorant, something that contains just guaifenesin.
Guaifenesin helps to break up, loosen and thin the phlegm.
Make sure you drink plenty of water. Hot showers and inhalations are also useful to break up the mucus.
Ask your pharmacist to suggest an expectorant cough medicine.
The Tussionex contains a strong cough suppressant along with an anti-histamine. It is good for a dry cough, runny nose and sneezing but it will proabably make you drowsy. I would be hesitant to take it given that you have a chesty cough. Taking a cough suppressant inappropriately can cause complications including bacterial chest infection.
