Hi friend,
Tapentadol or Nucynta are the same drug and is a Morphine drug used for mild to sever pain. It is not a brand name drug I'm familulr with however this is morphine and is very strong, so be care when you start to use it. Be aware of side effects, and most of all do not drive until you know how this medication is going to affect you. If you have and adverse side effects please call your Doctor right away. I hope you get the relief you are looking for. What mg. are your meds you're taking> Look to the top of this Drugs.com site and click on Drugs A to Z. Look up the drug you're taking this will give you a full account of what and what not to expect from this mediciationl Good Luck my friend, Bless hou. Check back with us and let us know how you are doing OK... Good Luck... and be careful and most of all be safe (((hugs)))midwestma

I was given Nucynta and I became very sick and dizzy.. even after 5 days it was unforgiving and it didn't help my pain any more than the t-3 I was taking before. I had to get off of it and (at the time) started 200mg ultram-er or extended release ultram x2 perday added 5mg Baclofen to that 2x a day. it worked great. then my insurance canceled coverage for it and I was back to regular ultram.. The Ultram ER was awesome, no mood swings and it covered me as long as I took it every 11 hours. great stuff. How did you do with the Nucynta?
Hey Mom_of_two
I'm posting here to let you know that I'm another poor soul who had much the same horrible reaction that you had to Nucynta. I feel a great deal of empathy with you in this regard. So, I'm thinkin' it's (sorta) like Bob Dylan sang: 'It ain't you babe'. Evil stuff, that Nucynta.
Your description of Nucynta as 'unforgiving' made me blurt out 'Right on!' in my empty (but for me) living room. Even my brief tryout of Nucynta was torture. Exactly like it did to you, Nucynta just flat-out made me sick and wouldn't let up.
I lasted only 4-5 days into the pricey 30-day supply of Nucynta that my pain clinic doc had prescribed for me. :<( Just couldn't do it. No way! I told the pain clinic folks that "It makes me too sick: up, down, in, out, all around... "
I was given Nucynta to try out for a month and it was a waste of time and $$$$. It is not morphine, it compares to Tramadol which did nothing for me except a grand mal seizure in my sleep. I'm on 15 mg of morphine right now and that has helped immensely, I'm still in pain but it's tollerable.
My suggestion would be to go on the morphine, it's cleaner and it's fast acting and longer lasting than Nucynta. Throw that crap away, for real!

I have been on Nucynta 100 mg two times a day. I am a 42 year old female 5'4 220 lbs. I have been on this med for over six months, and have seen a majority of good reviews. I would compare it to hydrocodone (lortab, Vicotin). It's really hard to compare it because for me it worked better than anything else I have ever tried. It works backwards and eases your pain from the nerves into the brain, not like other meds who start with the brain and go to the nerves. It is at its strongest around 1.25 hours. I would describe it as a med that grabs you by the shoulders and says "im seriously here to work". side effect I have had are sleepiness=mild, thirst=severe, voice scratchy=severe (but temporary)pain relief=best.I would take the first dose at home when you are not needed and sit back and relax. I hope this aswer helps, I know it isn't all big words and legistics, thought you may want the down to earth version. Wish you well.
Thank you soo much. Is it costly. My drugstore said was. What do you think. Also my insurance. Didn't cover it. Any advice? Thank you so much
@spooner578, what kind of insurance do u have? I have BCBS and I was charged $40 for 100-75mg. I do have to say that my insurance is one of the best, but it's getting ready to change as of next year, so I'm going to take advantage of this for as long as I can.
Check with the manufacturer and call them to let them know you can't afford it and sometimes they will either help pay for it or send you some, it's just ppl saying, that's all don't know if it's true or not. Good luck!

Hi! Honestly Nucynta, it tapentadol, is a morphine derivative. It is not morphine. It is prescribed for moderate to severe acute pain. Are you on the xr, or regular tablets. Xr was only released August 27th of this year. I have heard wonderful reviews of this medication, with less risk of withdrawal symptoms. It is a C2 Narcotic in the same class as oxycodone, Methadone, dilaudid, etc. It is quite expensive (about $10th per pill). I hope you have insurance! Good luck, please let me know how it works!
Hi, I have been taking Nucynta 75 mg 2x a day now for 3 months and it has been a life saver for me, at first yes there were side effects that I had to get use to. But you have that with any medication, and for me it is so worth it compared to dealing with the pain and being able to function. Nucytna has done this for me, I am able to sleep and do more through out the day because of the Nucynta. Good luck!
