It is making me very,very tired. Am I overdosing?
My doctor wants me to take 1 teaspoon of promethazine every 6-8 hours to get rid of a cough 10/27/?

Not at all. Producing sleep is one of the things Promethazine is used for. It's also used to quell a cough. I think your doc wants you to sleep, that way you can't cough. If the sleepiness is causing a problem call him and tell him. Maybe he can give you something else.

Usually promethazine (phenergan) when prescribed for a cough it usually has codeine or some other opiate in it. Phenergan WILL make u very tired. Look and see if there is something else on the rx label. Opiates depress the cough reflex in the brain. Hope u feel better.
