I do not want to have shots. Is there any other cream that will work for my elbow? I have a band on my arm, it doesn't seem like it is helping.

How long has this been going on? I had the same problem from playing racquetball. It affected the arm I held the racquet with. Lasted for almost a year before dr would do an operation. It was similar to when I had a neuroma removed from my foot also from playing racquetball. The band won't work if it's really bad. I wonder about the amount of time invovled so far?

I actually used horse linament on my arm when my elbow was at its worst. Hope your not that bad! LOL
My elbow had been hurting since the first of July. I have been jazzercising since Feb. of 2007, at least 3 times a week. In June of this year I have been doing jazzercise 3 or 4 times a week and water aerobics 3 times a week. I have not been doing any of my exercising sine July 21, to give my elbow rest. I am a paraeducator and drive a school bus. I need to use my elbow alot in school. I need to not hurt in school so I can do my job. I work with special educational preschoolers.
That's not long enough to look at surgery I don't think. I might have an idea for you though. I have three autoimmune problems including Rheumatoid Arthritis. It used to really hurt badly in my joints playing racquetball. I played in big tournaments so I had to be good and play hard.
When my rheumatologist saw my arm literally burned and blistered (from the horse linament I was using on my elbow) he freaked out. Told me I was crazy doing something like that. SO I asked him about the elbow problem and he had a prescription topical cream compounded for me. I lived in Houston and couldn't hardly find a pharmacy that could do the compound. But it helped immensely as soon as I used it.

It was a ketaprofen-based cream but it had additional ingredients too. It was 15% of the cream whatever it was that was added to the ketaprofen. There was some type of numbing ingredient, something for the pain because it worked. Perhaps your dr would know what I'm referring to? Just an idea but I know how badly it can hurt.
When I used horse linament I would then wrap my arm in an ace bandage and then tape it heavily for support and to hold the heat in ... hence the burns. It's very frustrating when you can't use your arm without excruciating pain. Let me know how it works out. Good luck.
You could try taking Voltaren/Cataflam for 3-7 days to see if it helps. (up to 150mg per day) This is an anti-imflammatory tablet. You can also get an anti inflammatory sports rub with arnica from a health shop and massage the muscle around the joint.
Tennis elbow does take time to settle down and you just have to try and eliminate any pressure and/or action that hurts it. I wouldn't give up aquaerobics though - just be careful.
