Medicated stents are smaller them your bare metal stents are are placed in narrow arteries. In order to keep them open doctors' put you on plavix for life. I have only one stent and it is a DES and it is at the base of my LAD, if it closes I will be up for bypass surgery, so with the smaller of the stents and there location you stay on plavix for life because they don't want to risk your blood clotting and closing the stent.
