My doctor has given me meprobamate 2x 400mg 4 times a day I just want to ask is this amount safe?

Your daily dosage of 3200mg is above the maximum recommended daily dosage. You should talk with your doctor.
This from http://www.drugs.com/pro/meprobamate.html
"The usual adult daily dosage is 1200 mg to 1600 mg, in three or four divided doses; a daily dosage above 2400mg is not recommended. "
