On the third day of Suboxone treatment I am starting to feel withdrawal symtoms again, the Jerks, twitches and The Horrors. I mentioned this to my wife who said well you can't expect not to feel anything. A person in group today said for Meth 24 daily should be the dosage? I don't see my doctor until Wednesday, what do you think? HELP!

I don't have personal ex. with methadone but I am on suboxone and can tell you some about why we even go into withdrawal. Our brains have 2 parts that send and receive signals and then when the proper signal is received, our brain releases its own opiates. When we take any opiate or opiate replacement, like methadone, the part of the brain that sends the signal decides to take a break, it can be a vacation, or retirement, depending on how long we take the opiates and how much we take and just simply how our bodies reacted to it.

Re: the 59 y/old male suffering from Withdrawl symptoms... I am a 31 year old recovering heroin and opiate addict who got clean with daily meetings and methadone maintenance. Now, you say even on the Suboxone you are experiencing hellish symptoms--if you are in treatment you need to immediately report this to your counselor who will in turn get the MD involved. You are "kicking" because you aren't taking comparable replacement meds to meet the levels in your brain. Lets say you did 3 oxy 80's a day for 1 year ( this is a made-up EXAMPLE) you would need at least 50-70 mgs of methadone a day and possibly more, to get rid of the withdrawals. You are seeking treatment therefore the pain of the nightmare should subside. You've got to tell them now. Otherwise, your chances of relapse get greater. Suboxone is a different med, with different connotations than Methadone, so figuring out the amount needed requires working with a Physician and your drug counselor.

Well thanks for that. Yes I am in therapy and today is my third of 16 mg Suboxone and I'm starting to feeling withdrawal symtoms (Twitching, Jerking, The Horros, etc.) pretty badly. Someone in group told me that usually for Methadone they are given 24 mgs. daily. I don'y know myself, but I'd really like to try and keep my dose low(Just another habit to kick). In addition I have also been taking xanax with the meth for the past year.

i think because you have been on the methadone so long(i dont know your dose,if you could write back) your body even with the subs is going to need some time. In comparision i was only on methadone for 17 months and only at 60mg. i got down to 20mg in about one month and switched to subs. i went running into my docs becasue after one month of being off the methadone and only 2mg of suboxone a day I was still in withdrawal/sweats/bp up/stomach pains and i couldnt believeit. The long half life but not only that it takes our brain time to heal. a person said would i rollerskate a week later after breaking a leg, probably not. Your brain needs time to heal. dont worry to much about how much suboxone your one right now get on a dose that is going to help you and take it day by day then worry about coming on it. The xanax should help depending on your dose but a lot of dr are reluctant to prescribe it because of the possible interaction with it(based on a french study were junkies injected the subutex in larger quantities and used high dose benzos. Hang in there, ask alot of questions and use these forums, dont let them scare you. At first I think my mind was still looking for that opiate high when I realized that I said what is the subs for blocking the opiates if i use, hopefully blocking cravings and withdrawal. My sub doctor told me he has a harder time with peopel switching from meth to subs but he said it can be done and he has succeded with all his patients switching it just can be a little bumpy. I am just curious how long you were on and how much and how long a detox. good luck you are making it
I've been on about 100mgs of Meth, 45 from the clinic and I was buying methadose diskettes weekly. So add at least an extra 40 to 60 on top of my clinic dose. I kicked pretty rapidly (7 days) they only keep you that long. Following that I twitched shook and stuttered for a week until I could get on the Subs for withdrawal. Now I find many people wo can't handle the kick from Subs. Today is my fourth day on subs, 16 mgs and I'm thinking about walking away from it. HELP
Hey, Please call your doctor and let them know you still think you are in withdrawal or feeling withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes they prescribe a blood pressure medication called Clonidine to help with withdrawal symptoms. Most doctors will NOT give you Xanax or any other benzo with Suboxone as it can cause respiratory failure. If you stopped taking that also ( the Xanax) that might be some of the bad feelings and symptoms. I stopped taking Ativan, also a benzo, at the same time I started suboxone and had a rough time at first. Look up the COWS test/worksheet here on this site. It is a list of symptoms of withdrawal and a way to rate them from 0 to 4 on how bad you are feeling each symptom. Your doctor should have given you a version of this test when you were put on suboxone in the office.

If you still have a copy of that, use that sheet( I am going on what was done to me at my doctor's office) and chart your symptoms at 15 minute intervals for 2 hours to help you and the doctor get an idea of how often and how much suboxone you need. And do ask about the clonidine, it may help. I sure hope you get to feeing better really soon. I don't have a computer right now at my house and I am using my boyfriend's. I will keep checking on you throughout the weekend. I realize it is the weekend, but, call the doctor and see if you can get some answers/help. You have come along way on a hard road and suboxone is usually easier than methadone, IF you can get stabilized. I am saying a Prayer right now for ya! Patti
Although I am a recovery addict, I do not understand the taking of one drug to get off another. Yes there is WD. It is a 4-6 day process. Sure it sucks, but after that time, under a doctors care, your body is well on the mend. Just do it. We have traveled the path of addiction which dealt much pain. Whats a few more days??? If we want to be free, we need to put on our big girl panties and just do it. It has been over a year for me, and I am off ALL mind, and body stimulating substances. The real work has just begun. Now I get to figure out why I went there in the first place.
