For those of you who knew me from the beginning, my nightmare got worse. To those who don't know me I wil try to be brief. I started a methadone clinic 2 mos ago because I could not find a dr. to prescribe it for chronic pain. First mistake, it doesn't work that way, as the methadone analgesic effect only lasts 5 hours. I was up to 90mg still getting raises every 5 days. At the end of October I ended up in the hospital for 5 days, observation for low blood pressure, dizzy, etc. Discharged, possible virus. 6 days later admitted this time. They brought in a cardiologist who found that the QT intervals of my heart were extremely prolonged, I was close to death. The cause was the methadone. He had no choice but to cut it by 10mg everyday to save my life. I thought the nodding and lightheadedness were caused by getting used to the methadone, I was unaware it was killing me. I urge anyone on it to get regular EKG's. I was released today with a few .05 ativan and nothing for my chronic pain. I am afraid the withdrawals which already started are going to be terrible. I have gone through them for as ling as 14 days from other opioids but the dr. told me this could last months,be glad I am alive. I think I may wish I wasn't. The Thomas recipe did not work for me. Please don't take methadone lightly and please get regular EKG's from your PCP. I had no idea what was happening to me. God Bless and Take Care of yourselves. Sable
