I took melatonin to sleep and it didn't work too well for me. The only thing it did for me was give me headaches. I have had friends use it and they love it. I guess it works differently for everyone. I recently read an article where a doctor has his patients drink cherry juice for insomnia. I guess you drink an 8 oz glass in the morning and another 8 oz glass before bedtime. If you do a search online about cherry juice and insomnia you can get more info. I haven't tried it yet but I'm definitely going to. Ive tried everything else. Good luck!
I am so sry. I am using a touch screen and did not mean to thumbs down u. I accidently did this this to Patti a couple weeks back. I don't know how to undo it but I am terribly sry Dazegrl.:-(

My son has taken Melatonin before at 11 yrs old. His body clock was all mixed up and his pediatrician suggested it. He took it also because he had anxiety. It got his body back to normal time of sleep and it relaxed him before sleep. Take it half and hour before bed. He now only uses it when he need it. Good luck!

hello cazraven, my daughter who is now 8 was using it, she had seizure activity at the time and adhd behavior. Melantonin is a natural relaxant opposed to taking prescribed medication. It would work well for her she was calm and slept well and when she wake up for school she was much almer to deal with instead of fussy, emotionally unstable, non-cooperative for her her episodes was mainly in the morning. vtech10

I have taken melatonin in the past for sleeping and sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not but most of the time it did. Side effects are weird dreams but as long as you know it is related to the melatonin you mind can adjust. I do not know how this works for children. I am a 57 year old man who has a history of drug medications that my doctors constantly prescribe. Due to back pain issues they have prescribed me sleeping medications but I want to go back to the melatonin and some good exercise I hope, if my body can tolerate the exercise. This is just 'food for thought'. Thanks troops, you provide some useful information.
im 48 and have pts from childhood issuses .sleeep aids you just get addicted to them.if you work hard and exersise should help alot. about a hour before bed i take melatonin with a glass of milk and that seems to help alot.maybee the tryptophane helps in the milk. if that dont work i take a benadryl.it sucks cause i try to avoid sleeping pills. hope this helps. madshirtgrinder.
I have taken melatonin but I was not that comfortable with it. I take a Baclofen (muscle relaxer for spasms) before I go to sleep and that seems to do the trick FOR ME. My caregiver who does around the clock care for me take something called Celestial Sleeptime Herbal tea and he swears by it. He stopped the melatonin and replaced it with this tea (no caffeine) and he has no side effects and recommends this product. I do not like the tea. My caregiver has a round the clock schedule with work, school and the stress of taking care of me, and this tea works for him. It may be worth a shot if he brags about this so much.

I was introduced to melatonin by an emergency room doctor. I hadn't been able to sleep for literally 5-6 days. The doctor just happened to be into natural remedies and NOT your average pill-pushing doctor. I'm used to the pill-pushing doctors , so I was skeptical but desperate. He prescribed melatonin, I purchased it and it worked! Ive never taken vitamins because I get my nutrients from a balanced diet, but melatonin IS the exception. Works the same, if not better than any sleep aid out there. I say this from first hand experience.

It is my understanding that its supposed to help your body understand when it is time to go to bed. People with jet lag can take it to help their body understand differences in time zones and such. I tried taking it and it did nothing for me, but that is because my body produces enough on its own to know when its night time, I just can't sleep through the night.
