Hi,
I am not a Doctor in this case a Scientist and do not pretend to be one.
I hope the following information is helpful to you.
Tolnaftate is a synthetic over-the-counter anti-fungal agent. It may come as a cream, powder, spray, or liquid aerosol, and is used to treat jock itch, athlete's foot and ringworm. It is sold under several brand names, most notably Tinactin (Merck).
Mechanism

Although the exact mechanism of action is not entirely known, it is believed to inhibit the squalene epoxidase (is an enzyme that uses NADPH and molecular oxygen to oxidize squalene to 2,3-oxidosqualene squalene epoxide, squalene epoxidase catalyzes the first oxygenation step in sterol biosynthesis and is thought to be one of the rate-limiting enzymes in this pathway In humans, squalene epoxidase is encoded by the SQLE gene) an important enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of ergosterol (a key component of the fungal membrane) in a similar way to allylamines( an organic compound with the formula C3H5NH2. This colourless liquid is the simplest stable unsaturated amine).
Note
Unsaturated maine is in organic chemistry, an alkene, olefin, or olefine is an unsaturated chemical compound containing at least one carbon-to-carbon double bond. The simplest acyclic alkenes, with only one double bond and no other functional groups, form an homologous series of hydrocarbons with the general formula CnH2n.
The simplest alkene is ethylene (C2H4), which has the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) name ethene. Alkenes are also called olefins (an archaic synonym, widely used in the petrochemical industry). Aromatic compounds are often drawn as cyclic alkenes, but their structure and properties are different and they are not considered to be alkenes.
Note
Ergosterol (ergosta-5,7,22-trien-3β-ol), a sterol, is a biological precursor (a provitamin) to vitamin D2. It is turned into viosterol by ultraviolet light, and is then converted into ergocalciferol, which is a form of vitamin D.
Ergosterol is a component of fungal cell membranes, serving the same function that cholesterol serves in animal cells. Because ergosterol is present in fungal cell membranes yet absent in animal cell membranes, it is a useful target for antifungal drugs
Note
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP+, in older notation triphosphopyridine nucleotide, TPN) is used in anabolic reactions, such as lipid and nucleic acid synthesis, which require NADPH as a reducing agent.
NADPH is the reduced form of NADP+. NADP+ differs from NAD+ by the presence of an additional phosphate group on the 2' position of the ribose ring that carries the adenine moiety.
Good luck with your paper!
