Hey there! Any and all new birth control methods should be complimented by a secondary form of birth control for the first month. In the case with the nuvaring, it is 99% effective with proper use, but generally needs some form of barrier method for the first month. After that first thirty-day time period, you do not need a second form of birth control. The nuvaring will be effective enough.
