I am having major headache. Just received infed treatment #2. They give me steroids and benedryl.?

Infed is iv iron therapy for anemia. Wondering if headache is a side effect from the steroids? Or how much benedryl is too much for a day?

No INFED is iron therapy via iv. Sorry to confuse. Nothing wrong with sinus. I am very anemic. Receiving iv iron therapy.
Oh no, I am sorry for the confusion. The maximum of benadryl for a 24 hour period is 300mg. That is quite a bit. I have lot of allergies & take it quite often. It sounds like you are allergic to something that you are getting in your infusion. I am also anemic & take iron supplements, but have never had an allergy problem with it. It could be your doctor is playing it safe with benadryl & prednisone before your procedure to ward off an allergic reaction. My doctors treats e for this when ever I have a dye test for an CT scan or X-ray since I am allergic to the dye. I take 60mg of prednisone & 50mg of benadryl the night before the procedure, & the same one hour prior to the test or dye X-ray.Have you asked your physician why they are doing this? Do you hav allergies? This is something the nurse doing the infusion could also answer for you. Hope this helps you a bit.

The predisone in large dses could cause a headache, but isn't likely.It usually makes you feel better all over in my experience. If you are only having the headache when you receive this treatment I would surely mention the headache to your doctor just to make sure... Mary
I agree with Mary. In seven years of prednisone, the only headache I have had was sinus. It reduces inflammation. Less pain when in use. See the doctor.
Thank you! And the max dosage for benedryl is a huge help. The steroids before infed is to prevent any reaction from the iron infusion. Benedryl is to help if there is a reaction. Dr did say that she cannot give the iron without steroids cannot risk annafalaxic shock
Sounds right. The dose you are getting is probably not cortisone. So it is temporary. Solumedrol is normally given. Might make you awake for a bit but the benadryly will counteract it. Generally a one dose before an infusion. Very common. You will be fine with that. Hope the rest of the treatment benefits you. Karen
