took 100 mg first day decreasing to 80 day 2- 60 day 3 -40 day 4-20 day 5 and that was it. It did help the aching but how long will it last?

Not sure what you are asking? If you are asking how long the "effects" of prednisone last... that is up to your body and why you are taking it. If it was for some kind of infectious process then it will not have to be repeated. If it was some other purpose than it depends on the purpose. If it was for pain from arthritis that dose may prevent a return for several weeks to months. If you are asking how long the side effects will last that depends on the side effects. They can go away within a couple of days or last for months. Hope that helps.
