... anyway, my dad has stage c-advanced cirrhosis. He is in alot of pain also. 6 months ago he was treated with BCG (bladder cancer). I can't help but think that the BCG is what pushed my dad over the edge due to it's toxic make-up. I hope I get feed back as this is ripping me up... thanks

Hey CandisHERO,
Sorry you are having to endure this heartache. Sounds like your dad has been through alot of pain and discomfort. Not really familiar with BCG or other cancer medications so can't really add much here, but wanted you to know you are welcome and I hope others will answer your request for support.
Best wishes,
Laurie

Hi CandisHERO,
I am so sorry that you are having to watch your dad suffer like this. I don't know much about this treatment either but I do know about pain. I live with it daily. Also, I recently lost my mother-in-law (who was one of my best friends) to cancer of the liver. Watching her suffer through chemo and radiation ripped my heart out. She was fairly young, only 62. I'm not a medical professional so can't give you any advice there. All I can really offer you is support and friendship during this painful time in your life. I will send you a friend request and if there is anything I can do or if you just need someone to talk to I will respond. You and your dad are in my thoughts and prayers.
Your friend,
Terri
Thank you Terri & so very sorry about your mom-in-law, it hurts so terribly... this I know. My heart aches for my mom because after 55 years of marriage they aren't 2... they are 1. I haven't a clue how much more I can take before I fall apart in front of them. Thank you again for the kind words and prayers... candi

I have stage C liver cirrhosis I am sorry to say. Right now it is not causing me much pain, it is the back problems that are unbearable. The problem with the cirrhosis is, it extremely limits the pain medications they can use. He has to stop all Tylenol, Ibuprophen, naproxen sodium and others. Sounds like since he has cancer I would get him to pain specialist and see if they can give him the safest drug of all, pure morphine for his pain. It is not like us stage C people are going to live forever so I keep stressing to the doctor, quality not quantity! If you can get him relief of his suffering than that would be the best first step I think, then you can proceed to see if there is any treatments for his cancer. I heard there are companies and different resources available to treat cancer that were not there before... so please see if you can get him relief, it may be the pain making him act strange..so see if that IS it! I hope you get help soon, this is very sad.
Wow!!! I never imagined the response I've gotten! Thank you Amanda and everyone!!! I vow to "pay this forward" when the time is right. We have another appointment tomorrow for an MRI, not wanting to hear the prognosis after it. Our 6 to 18 month window could be drasticly reduced. Dad quit drinking 8 months ago when he started to feel like crap with pain. The VA never said anything about cirrhosis until about a month ago. They said it was kidney stones. The "large stone" was actually a tumor on his bladder. It has been 1 dam thing after another for this beautiful man. I will take Amanda's advice and run with it. My daddy has always told me he's "tough as nails" and I thank GOD that he passed it along to me. I refuse to allow this pain to continue or let my proud father lose his dignity. Thank you all... candi

Thank you so very much for acknowledging my question Laurie. BCG was originally developed as a vaccine for tuberculosis and also used to treat bladder cancer. They fill your bladder with this live bacteria then roll you around for an hr., you empty your bladder then go home. You must not urinate in public bathrooms for a couple days and when you do it must be followed with bleach, children cannot be around you... He felt fine before the BCG but grew weaker with every treatment. I understood that cirrhosis made the liver unable to filter things? Wouldn't you think live bacteria would harm the liver further? I'm really curious?
hi, not familiar with BCG at all. hope someone can offer some insight.
Will keep your dad in prayers.
I suspect the BCG treatment would be more likely to affect the kidneys rather than the liver, but it is all intertwined. Wish I could help ya more, but I will pray for your father and for you.
thank you msdeems... very much
again, Laurie... your kindness goes a long way, thank you and good-night
No live bacteria would only hurt his liver further if it was a being absorbed by the liver and two if his immune system is seriously damaged from the cirrhosis. Cirrhosis mostly filters what we eat and drink, produces all sorts of hormones and enzymes needed in the activities and repair of our bodies. Yes of course if the immune system can't handle it yes, but normally that is not the type of thing that damages the liver. The liver would probably be more damaged by trying to digest foods really high in fat, like fried foods. Oh by the way fried foods, really fatty foods and greasy foods are hard for the liver to process, sometimes cause pain and swelling. He needs to reduce sugar and salt and I am told these are hard for the liver to process too. I mean in all reality we all eat sugar and salt, just try to eat as healthy as you can afford. A freind did some serious liver damage to himself trying to save money and eating only off the dollar burger menu for about six months.

This was enough to damage his liver... so what you eat is important. I am not a health food nut though... just eat reasonable old fashioned basic diet, that should be fine. They say Milk Thistle is an amazing herb for liver rejuvenation, read about it and tell me what you think... oh and please add me as a friend! hugs Amanda (I get confused finding how to add people a bit) I will try to add you too. Send a message anytime.
