My doctor gave them to me in the form of a I guess heat patch. They worked in certain areas. Especially around my lower ribs or shoulders. Although they didnt help over long period of time. If only I would have had one great big patch to cover body.LOL! My sis(who also has Fibro) told me they could give you a shot of it in certain areas and it helped alot of people. I am not sure what you mean by topical. If your pain is like mine, you will try anything once, and at least this isnt the dirty word(narcotics) most people dont want to talk about. I on the other hand have exhausted almost all but pain meds so I am not gonna feel bad. Good Luck in whatever you try and God Bless You!

By topical, there is a cream that is made up of these components, and wondered if using this topical cream on certain muscle areas would be helpful?
I din't know they had a cream but if it works like patch then yes it is helpful. I guess it depends on how bad fibro is at the time. Mine is sometimes so much worse somedays and not as much others. Since it is only topical, I don't see how it couldn't hurt to try it. I am sure you have tried lots of things just once, I know I have. Even with patch I found a heating pad or electric blanket with the Lidocaine worked together well, so with cream may help even more. Hope this helps in some way. Good Luck!
Thanks again for your input. We will check w/Dr. about the cream and IF he will prescribe it, we will try it. My husband has the Fibro, and I'm told that it's much worse in men than women. That only 5% of Fibro patients are men. His pain level alternates like yours', as well. Thanks again, and GOD bless you, too
I know this isn't related to question, but does to your comment. I haven't been on this site long enough to talk to many members, but all fibro patients I know are women. I am so sorry his pain is so much worse than ours, I can't imagine any worse than mine. If it isn't prying I would love to know how similar his experience to mine since he is a man. Thanks so much.
His pain is crippling, but as most of us women know, men do not handle pain as well as we do. That's not to say he is cowardly or weak, but each person reacts to pain differently, and he is on a lot of meds to try and control the pain. Thank you so much for your interest.
A doctor prescribed a special cream for me that contained Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine), diclofenac (Voltaren) , and lidocaine in a cream base. The Flexeril is a muscle relaxant that blocks nerve impulses or pain sensations being sent to your brain. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic (yes, its the same stuff that dentists use to freeze your mouth!) that produces pain relief by blocking signals to nerve endings in skin. You apply it to wherever you have pain and rub it in. You might ask your doctor about this. Apparently almost anything can be put in cream which is a great help for people who have stomachs that don't tolerate medications.
I just got prescribed the LidoDerm patch today for my Fibromyalgia pain, right after getting my second round of trigger point injections. I'm hoping the combination will bring some relief from this excruciating flare up that has been going on for almost three weeks. I'll try to get thru the fog and remember to post an update on whether the patches help me... gentle hugs to all my fellow fibro friends out there.
If you are using as a spot treatment it may help. I found lidocaine patches didn't stay on well however helped in the spot of my herniated disc, to a degree. On the fibro not so much as its your muscles typically that hurt and burn. Of all the creams I tried voltraine cream worked the best for spot/topical use. Salon pas which u can get at walmart, cvs, walgreens worked very well as an over the counter, cheaper version of lidocaine and heat. Around 4.00 a box of about 20.
