Mom was in the hosptial for three days, they gave her Librium 75mgs 3 times a day (which makes it 225mgs a day.) Then they sent her home with a prescription of the same thing and same dose, Librium 75mgs 3 times a day. She's not going through withdrawal anymore, and she wants to stop taking the Librium, but the doctor didnt tell her how to tapper down. She doesnt have Insurance to go back to the doctor. So my question is, How can she tapper of? How long will it take and what should she expect? Please help she is talking about drinking again if she cant stop taking the Librium.

As much as she probably doesnt want to do this, it is probably best that she follow up with a Dr at least once, that way she can ask these kinds of questions. Sometimes Drs have special prices for folks who pay cash and dont have insurance. She should be checked by a Dr now that she is home so he can check her health and how she is doing now that she is home. I would also strongly encourage her to check into a program like Alcoholics Anonymous. They can help her through the rough times and support her sobriety. Sobriety is VERY difficult to do on your own and EVERYONE at alcoholics anonymous have been there and it is very nonjudgemental.
