Levothyroxine - After taking Levothyroxone, why do we have to wait a half hour before eating?

Anyone on this med is told to wait an hour before eating after taking the med. You can wait a half hour if drinking something like coffee. It has to do with the absorption of the med. THey say you shouldn't have antacids or some other acidic foods like grapefruits either for this reason. I switched docs and interestingly, she said I can take the pill at bedtime, as long as I don't eat anything at least an hour before the pill. I find this much easier b/c I need my morning coffee IMMEDIATELY when I wake up. You should discuss this with your doc and perhaps it will work for you too.
