Januvia and type 1 diabetes - Why wouldn't Januvia help a type 1 diabetic individual?

Presently Januvia is only approved for use in patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Januvia works by regulating the levels of insulin the body produces after eating.
It is not suitable in patients with patients with Type 1 diabetes because the body is incapable of producing insulin.

Studies are ongoing to see if Januvia may be of benefit in patients with Type 1 diabetes.

I believe your question is wether your wife is a Type I or Type 2 Diabetic; given the information you provided I would guess she is Type2. Controlling diabetes in large part is the patients responsibility i.e. Diet, exercise blood sugar monitoring etc., as well as medication. Was your wife put on insulin injections immediately after being diagnosed? If not then she is more than likely a Type2. Either way I wish the two of you the best in her Diabetes management.
