I'm on Topamax for weight loss. I've been on it since March 1, 2009 and, to date, I have lost 85 pounds. I am hoping to lose another 20-25 pounds. I take 200 mg of Topamax per day (100 mg in AM and 100 mg in PM). My weight loss was the most rapid in the first 3-4 months and has slowed dramatically over the past 8 weeks, but I have not gained any weight, so I am quite satisfied with the results thus far. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor.

Wow, that's great! I'm only on 100 mg a day. Do you have any side effects taking 200 mg a day? I'm looking to lose at least 40 if not 50 pounds and would like to increase my dosage for that reason, just wondering if you expiernce any side effects. Good luck on the next 20 pounds! :)
no other side effects girls ??? youre all so great ! this site has given me hope and people who understand what im goin through. i cant ask for much more than that !! ( soft hugs to you all )
Oh no! I've experienced side effects too! Sorry if I did not include that! I did not mean to mislead anyone! Most of the side effects were the worst in the beginning. And my dosage was actually decreased as I lost weight. At one point I was taking 350 mg per day. I've had many of the common side effects. Tingling in my hands and feet, which I still experience, but I have learned to tolerate. Memory loss; very short term - that was the worst on the highest dose and has been much better since the dosage was lowered. I tend to type double words without realizing it. But it's been worth it to lose this weight. Nothing else has ever worked for me. It's been like a wonder drug. I don't obsess over food anymore.
I take Topamax for migraines. I did lose weight when I started on 50mg a day - but then i was eating much less as it is summer. I've gained most of the weight I lost again now im on 75-100mg. I'm not over weight but i haven't really experienced much weight loss. I also spoke to someone who had no weight loss at all, so I suppose it depends on the person?. 200mg is much higher, but I don't like the sound of the side effects so I don't know if i will get that high before i try a different migraine treatment - it is worth it if it works but i haven't had much success with other treatments so im a bit pessimistic . Also i'm a student and i dont like the sound of memory loss/slowed thinking '~'.
i was @ 1st on 25mg a day -50mg a day and saw no weight change. now that i am on 100mg i have lost 15-20 pounds. I'm hoping for 10 more pounds
I have been on Topamax for migraines for years, 200 mg, 100mg in AM and 100mg in PM. At first I lost some weight because I simply wasn't that hungry, apparently from the topamax but that does subside. However, when the dosage was doubled because of the onset of more headaches, so did the side effects - at first it was like walking into walls, tingling hands, but after awhile (perhaps 2 weeks) it did wear off. Words don't come as quickly as I would like, but I can blame that on so many things... but no doubt, the headaches do not come as often. It continues to curb weight, but I have never relied on it for that purpose alone.
Thanks Chairwoman,
I'm actually glad to hear that someone else has experienced some of the same side effects (especially since you mentioned "walking into walls") I've had similiar situations and I've been afraid it was something unrelated because no one else has mentioned that type of effect. Fortunately, it's been 6 months and I haven't noticed that the appetite effects of the medication have decreased any yet. Since I've lost so much weight, my doctor and I have decided to decrease the medication, but I guess because by overall bodyweight has decrease, I have not noticed a decrease in the side effects; the beneficial or the the no-so-good-ones, tingling, loss of words, etc. While I do not suffer from migranes I have noticed I have not had a headache of any kind, (sinus, stress, general cold involved, etc.) for the past 6 months, so that is definitely a bonus! :)
