... days. I can't find info on whether this is harmful to take regularly. I also take levothyroxine 50 mg daily for hypothyroidism. My doctor reassures me it's okay, but still not sure an opioid should be used regularly.
I've been taking Lortab 3 yrs. for sciatica, only take 250 mg once a day, never more. I often skip?

Check with a pharmacist-Some people say they know more about medical interactions than doctors. If your thyroid suppliment is working okay and you aren't sluggish or constipated, you should do ok. If your system becomes sluggish-then you need to begin worrying.
Good luck

Lortab isn't prescribed in doses as high as 250 mg - that is the amount of Tylenol (acetaminophen) in it. What is the number that comes before that - such as 5/250? The 5 is the amount of milligrams of hydrocodone in it - the opiate (narcotic) dose. If you aren't taking more than you are prescribed, and are able to skip days on it, most likely you are ok. Meds do take a toll on your body, so can't say for certain and you do want to stay on as low a dose as possible - your body will become used to it in time and will need more. Doctors are increasingly reluctant to prescribe narcotics, so keep that in mind. Medication "vacations" - days without the pain meds are good for keeping your tolerance low, as long as you can stand the pain. Make sure all your doctors know all the meds you are on, and remind them when they prescribe something new. There is also an interactions checker on the home page here (drugs.com).

Thanks. Sorry, I wasn't clear on the dosage. I get 1000 mg tablets that I cut into four pieces. I'm 61 and never took many meds in my life. I always like to try alternatives first, but the 1/4 pill of Lortab in the middle of the day seems to really help. I just don't ever want to depend on them. I find when I'm able to get in a good swim, I don't need the pill as much, just tough getting the time to swim. I'll definitely check out the interactions checker. Thanks again to all. :)
Ok - so again, that tablet (whole) has 1,000 mgs of acetaminophen (which is a lot - I believe the standards have changed to only 2,000 mgs a day are safe). It's the number before the /1000 that tells you how much of the opiate is in there. I did check into it and didn't find any Lortab (hydrocodone) that comes in the 1,000 mgs of acetaminophen doses. Are you sure this is Lortab you are taking?
Never mind... it's 10-500 hydrocodone/apap. So I am taking 2.5 mg of hydrocodone (not 250) 3-4 times per week. I'm cool.
