Jo212I was diagnosed with panic disorder in 1989 (I had had it all my life) during a 2 month inpatient stay in a mental hospital.I was started on Tofranil and I can tell you it worked miracles in my life.I did NOT have a panic attack for 5 years.When they resumed I was re-hospitalization and started on Klonipin 3mg QD for the past 14 years which of course I became addicted and slept away the better part of that time until a year ago when I stopped.Of course I am still having them everyday now.I can't go on like this.I want to check out getting back on Tofranil so I can stay off Klonipin... Advice Please.Thanks

I have also been on Zoloft 200 gm QHS with the Klonipin for the 14 years.

What Is Tofranil Used For?
Tofranil is approved to treat the following conditions:
* Depression (also known as major depression or clinical depression) in adults
* Bedwetting in children.

Hello Jo212. Just to answer your question, I was on tofranil some years ago, and it was precribed for my anxiety. It worked very well, but I had to stop taking it because my body had built up an intolerance to the drug. My main problems issues looking back at my notes were it caused me insomnia, really had a time falling asleep, and a very dry mouth, and trembles. But they were tolerable, it really did help my anxiety. Its still prescribed today, and on the market. The oldies sometimes still manage to do there magic. Best of wishes to you,pledge

My Grand daughter is presently on Tofranil and she is ten years old. Is there possibly another treatment for her anxiety and fear. I am certain the present use of this drug is too harsh and has too many negative effects for such a young child.I hope there is a safer alternative treatment for her.
