Is this butorphanol tartrate good for severe back pain?

First, thank you for your service. No one (especially on the internet) can tell you specifically if something will work or not. Butorphanol is an opioid, so you're not staying away from them with this. If addiction is a concern, talk to your doctor about it. There are some medications that will have a lower abuse potential, but open communication with your physician is the best place to start. Personally, I get a great amount of relief with fentanyl, and no side effects. I also have none of the euphoria that opiates typically cause.
