i started Pamelor several months ago and worked up to 75mg at night. It was prescribed for Depression but had the added benefit of helping me sleep as i suffer from long term insomnia. It was wonderful but soon my body got used to it and one night i took a second 75 mg and i slept for 8 hours! It was heaven! I try not to do that every night but often i do take the 2nd one. Is this dangerous? I hope not as it helps my sleep like nothing else and i have tried everything!
Is there a dosage of pamelor that is considered too high and/or dangerous?

pslevin, I think you should talk to your doctor about this, & not be playing with increasing you meds by yourself. If you tell him that you tried to double & how well it worked, he may give you a new script. the way you are doing it you could very well run short before your next script is due. Just a thought...

Hey pslevin,
The literature states the following for Pamelor (nortriptyline):
Usual Adult Dose – 25 mg three or four times daily; dosage should begin at a low level and be increased as required. As an alternate regimen, the total daily dosage may be given once a day. When doses above 100 mg daily are administered, plasma levels of nortriptyline should be monitored and maintained in the optimum range of 50 to 150 ng/mL. Doses above 150 mg/day are not recommended.
So I have to agree with Mary, you need to discuss this with the doctor if for no other reason at least to keep tabs on your blood levels.
Best wishes,
Laurie
