2 yr old female has been on prednisone, prograf, lasix for a yr., now phys want to give her rituximab iv. They feel this will reset her white blood cells and they will be able to take her off meds. So concerned of usage in children as well as non-cancer pt.

Perhaps giving this child just rituximab will help reset her white blood cell count ... but you must also be aware that rituximab can also cause:
Immunologic side effects have included B-cell depletion in 70% to 80% of patients. This was associated with decreased serum immunoglobulins in a minority of patients.
It can aslo cause neutropenia.
However, doctors must have seen benefits before and that's why they want to change.
