I was on Xolair and it was so expensive. I see the generic name is omalizumab and wondered if it is less expensive. I did really well when I was on Xolair and hardly had to take anything else and never really had to go to the clinic for my asthma my Drs want me to go back on it. When I was on the Xolair there was no generic availible. Is the generic available now and is it less expensive
Is omalizumab cheaper than xolair?

hello,
There are no generic available at this time for Xolair. I remembered seeing this question and was at my Dr. office yesterday and asked them as i am starting Xolair myself this coming week. I knew the answer would be No but I had to ask so i could answer you honestly and with the ebst information i could get. Drugs need to be on the market for I believe 9 yrs before they anyone can begin to make generics.
When i first obtained some information from my Dr. ( for Xolair) They had paperwork included in my booklet that was for some program that helps with Financial needs because this drug is so expensive. i went back to look in my booklet but was unable to find it. the only copy i had, i signed and passed along. I didnt even need it because i have insurance but they still encouraged me to sign just incase something should happen and I need the services.
A lot of drug companies offer programs for people who need these drugs for thier care and are unable to afford them. Ask the Dr you were getting it from, if they can provide you with the information. I know all to well what its like not to breath right. I have been battling with this for 16 months now and am finally now getting Xolair.
The reason i suffered so long was.. Well first off i did the right thing, went to a well known allergist in my area.. After several meds for my breathing he stated without ANY testing i had COPD. I was shocked and also sad. Time went by in meantime was still suffering having these massive breathing attacks that if it wasn't for my neb machine, id be in deep trouble.
Rescue inhalers do nothing for me and I havent responded to any meds at all. I asked him should i see a Pulminologist? The answer was No he can handle it. I started really digging into COPD and realized gee maybe im not responding to meds im on ( they were even for COPD). because maybe I DONT have COPD. Realizing i also wasnt properly tested. I went behind his back and went to a great pulm. Dr who i just started seeing in may . I dont have COPd because we did all the testing. but what i do have is severe allergy asthma and the other Dr being an asthma allergy Dr should have known this. I suffered all this time because of a moron. I guesss i bring this up because the end result is nothing has worked for my allergy asthma and I am beginning to take Xolair this week and Im very nervous. Im sorry to babble I just wanted to share my experiences with this breathing stuff thats going on. I sure hope you can get somewhere with some of the info i provided. Take care keep me posted if you can. Snakey
