My 85 year old mother started taking this 5 days ago and just lost function of
her legs. Is this permanent?
Is loss of leg function a side effect of spironolactone?

I'm not sure whether spironolactone would have caused her legs to not function ... but in any case I do suggest that you get her seen by her doctor as soon as possible, if you haven't done so already.
