I have HIV, have had PID in the past, and also had an Eptopic Pregnancy almost 3 years ago. My Dr. seems to be pushing me to use either the Mirena or the Implanon and after reading the pamphlets, I am NOT at all "on board" with doing either of them or any birth control for that matter. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do?
Is it a good idea to use Mirena or Implanon if you are hiv pos, or have past PID and eptopic preg..?

You need to weigh up the risks versus benefits, only a decision you can make. Surely the risks of using Mirena or Implanon far out weigh the risk of having a child with severe birth defects.

I am married, and both my husband and I are HIV pos. He is currently on meds and we do use protection just as so not to pass the strands. I have to begin taking meds and that is the reason they want to put me on one of those contraceptives, because the meds i will have to take can cause severe birth defects. So again, i ask the previous question. Is it a good idea for me to used either of those contraceptives considering my health issues?
