Details:
I am currently taking 40mgOxyCR twice daily w/5-5mg oxyIR for breakthrough pain. This is for severe COPD/Emphysema that I was diagnosed with 3 years ago and was immediately accepted for disability. Since then, the FEV numbers have dropped from .57 to .3 (a/o 3 months ago). I cannot walk more than five feet w/o oxygen and the condition seems to be going downhill more rapidly. I had been on Prednisone (up to 30 mg/day), but stopped taking it as it wasn't helping breathing any more at all.
I have never used a patch before and am wondering if the pain relief is as or more effective than Oxy.

My Doc tried to change me from 10mg oxy to a fentynal patch, only he mistakenly gave me 75 microgram patches, which keeps you about as high and painless for 24 hours. Dose for cancer patients. Make sure he matches patch with your current dosage!

The thing I like about the patch is that it is continuous 24/7 medication. I also like the lack of peaks and valleys- it is more even. It is a very strong medication but one thing that worries me for you is that depression of breathing is a possible side effect.
