since starting Benicar with HCT 4 months ago I have several bowel movements daily with very soft stool a diarrhea.
Is diarrhea a side effect of Benicar HCT?

Hello Teti. I read up on Benicar, via this site and two other sites and came across nothing to indicate that benicar causes or helps to cause diarrhea or soft stools. Read through user reviews and no previous users list it as a side effect. It could be that benicar does cause your symptons, its just not been reported as such. You might ask your doctor or pharmacist to confirm or get thier opinion. Best of wishes to you,pledge

I am sorry that I tossed the Info sheet form either HCT or Benicar or Benicar-HCT on which I thought I remembered reading that it could cause "either diarrhea or constapateion" (this was in the same sentence) I also found on line that in rare cases it could cause diarreha and low back pain. I have experienced the side effect of swollen and itching of lips and eye lids. I started to take the Benicar-HCT every other day and the soft stool became less frequent. Then upon taking 2 days in a row cramping and soft stool began again. I stopped taking it and went back to Avapro, the frequent bathroom visits have stopped but the low back pain and tirdness as well as itching of the eyes continues but not as severer. Aleve does help the back pain.
