No, they are 2 different medications. Alprazolam is the generic form of Xanax-it is a Benzodiazepine that functions as an antianxiety med. Buspirone is the generic name for BuSpar-an Azaspirodecanedione that acts as an antianxiety med as well as a sedative. Hope this helps.
